Casey Deary

Casey Deary's story is one of the great American horseman narratives — a kid from Texas with no family horses, no trust fund, and no roadmap, who built one of the most successful reining operations in the world through an extraordinary combination of feel, work ethic, and faith.

Born in 1980, Deary grew up in Texas without horses in the family. But as a teenager, he started buying low-cost unbroken horses with money he earned himself, training them, and reselling them — an entrepreneurial instinct that would define his entire career. At 16, he was already investing, training, and building the business habits that would take him to the top.

His first NRHA paycheck came on November 4, 2000 — $82 at a warmup show in Katy, Texas, aboard Crome Marks. He was 20 years old. By 2005 he was in the Open finals at the National Reining Breeders Classic. By 2012, he was the NRHA Futurity Level 4 Open Champion aboard the mare Americasnextgunmodel — the horse he credits as his 'first elite athlete' and the one that elevated his career to the highest level.

He won the Futurity again in 2015, this time aboard Shesouttayourleague in a thrilling run-off that simultaneously delivered his first $1 million in NRHA career earnings. He won it a third time in 2021 on Ten Thirty, and a fourth time in 2025. Four Futurity titles. One of only a handful of riders in history to win it more than twice.

Deary also won the NRHA Derby in 2022 and the NRBC Open in 2020 — both aboard Americasnexttopgun, the son of his career-making mare. The generational thread running through his best horses reflects the depth of his horsemanship and his eye for talent.

He has been one of the select few elite riders to qualify for The Run For A Million competition every year since its inception in 2019 — a field that includes only reining's absolute best. Casey, his wife Nicole, and their four children Wyatt, Joy, Owen, and Olivia were featured as central figures in CMT's Taylor Sheridan–produced series The Last Cowboy, bringing reining to a national television audience.

By 2023, Deary had surpassed $6 million in NRHA career earnings — ranking him fourth on the all-time list. Despite winning at every level imaginable, he remains, in his own words, guided by a purpose beyond the scoreboard: 'I feel like God put me here to ride these horses and use these opportunities to spread His word.'
